I remember Christmas spent in your sunroom, opening parcels under the tree, the height of New Zealand summer making everything warm, family all around to make things fun.
I remember staying in the little room off the garage, top bunk mine, reading Roald Dahl books from Timaru's library, a nice walk away.
I remember sitting in the swinging seat in the garden you took such pride in, and I remember once when you took us to your local church and we got to do communion.
I remember you coming to visit us in France, listening to all our made-up stories, getting good night hugs as we went to bed.
I remember the numerous videos we would film, so we could include you in our birthdays, Christmas, our random plays. I'm sure we wrote you letters and sent you pictures too. We certainly phoned often, our connection to you keeping us up to speed with the lives of our cousins, aunts and uncles.
I remember the curries you used to make us, with banana and apple alongside chicken or pork. I still make it regularly, and always think of you. I remember travelling across the world, nearly three years ago, me and Ceri getting to stay with you, to see you in person after so long just on the phone.
You were my only grand-parent I got to know. I'm glad it was you.
Love you Nana.
Natalie.
2016 Art Summary

2016 art summary by DagronRat on DeviantArt
Thought about putting the Brexit doodle in, but found some big paintings I'd worked on instead. :D
(Also I went 6 months without updating DeviantArt, oops.)
A much less prolific year than last, but it's been one of many doodles (tumblr), beermats, and a number of ambitious projects & commissions (giant panda, photomontage, red pandas...) I'm not too unsatisfied with that. :)
How's your guys 2016 been?
(Mine's been mostly okay apart from politics, work stuff turning sour. I'm going into 2017 with quite a number of goals in mind which could be quite exciting. :D)
Cool Thing...
Jan. 3rd, 2016 09:10 pmThe Bar I sometimes doodle on beermats in actually keeps the ones I do that they like. Like in the back. Where all the employees can see them.
Wow.
No more late night shifts for me.
Nov. 29th, 2015 01:12 pm
Last night was my last shift working as a bar waitress in the above place for the foreseeable future.
I started there over 5 years ago, on a casual basis, as a jobseeker looking for any temp job I could do that would pay for my bread. Now 3 years into a stable full-time job, it is with a heavy heart that I hand in my fob. There have been many laughs, lots of inspiring sights and good engaging work to be done, but the time has come for me to say goodnight to sore feet, late hours and the panic to get my white shirt ironed.
To the ballroom and friends. Cheers!
As a result today we
And then when it was clear we weren't getting in any time soon (like at least another 2 hours and we'd gotten soaked through by the rain already) we went to get some godly-warm lunch and to watch Mad Max: Fury Road which wasn't anywhere as bad as I thought it would be. (Very pretty too. Those clouds! The sands! Gorgeous.)
Excellent fun day, even though I suspect I'm coming down with the cold. Long live WeekEnds! :)
PS: How's everyone else doing?
Yesterday's brilliant ideas.
Feb. 1st, 2015 09:07 am1) Going down to the beach to eat a sandwich when too early for work training at ballroom.
Pro: Get to see huge dark waves come crashing in, highlighted by an angled beam of sunlight coming through the cloud. Beautiful!
Con: it was freaking windy cold January and I have the starts of a sore throat. Of course it starts to sleet.
2) went ice skating! And got a discount because there was only half an hour of the public session left.
Pros: I hadn't been in years. It was awesome fun and a good way to waste time in the 2 hours between training and my actual shift.
Cons: I don't think it helped the blister forming on the back of my foot... and my trousers must have rubbed at my legs either during that or the shift afterwards. Ouchy owe owe.
3) ignoring the blister forming at the back of foot.
3a) despite having a change of shoe handy up till just before the shift.
3b) and then being too lazy/optimistic to go and put a plaster on.
Overall great Saturday but heavens am cream crackered and sore now.
DagronRat's 2014 Year of Art!

Dag year 2014 by DagronRat on DeviantArt
Sooooo... I'm pretty sure one of my new year's resolutions every year is "do more art!", and then invariably come December I see these "year in review" things and go... "I ain't got nothing for February or March. D:"...
Well this year I figured out that just cause it wasn't posted online in the month it was made, doesn't mean it doesn't count! :P
So yeay, Book Cover arts, Commissioned Portraits and stuff do count! Yeaaaay! :D
(It's been a good year for those. Got paid for stuff too. :D Next year's goal: Do even moar!)
Veronica Mars
Oct. 31st, 2014 11:44 amI am pretty sure it was about ten years ago that June first mentioned the tv series to me, and I pretty determinedly put it on my to watch list.
Had a failed attempt or two at borrowing a friend's copy of the series since with little luck...
Watched the movie on the flight back from Singapore. one word: AWESOME.
The tv series is definitely gaining more weight on the to watch list now! ;D
(Now when I'll get around to it however... *sigh* Need to try Steins gate still too... and being on holiday means so much to catch up on the stuff we actually watch regularly. Huh.)
On a mega plus note: Good to be back home! ^__^
A derp a day + Sherry art.
Oct. 2nd, 2014 05:31 pmDoor's now needing mending, but thankfully it's got another lock on it we can use since that wasn't locked, and bonus: it won't allow me out without my keys.
oTL
To distract from such failings, here, have a shiny Sherry:

I don't think there's a Scottish Soul out there today that won't feel strongly about this.
Feels like a dang good workout though. :)
Have also been doing a colour palette meme, to
The produce is under the cut! :D

Apr. 25th, 2014 06:31 pmApparently there's some great showdown going on in the latest DC files and...
I'm kinda not caring. Help?
I'm just waiting for it to go down so I can read it all in one go when it's all out, but... *sigh* I miss the days when plot was synonymous with Haibara, though I'm sure FBI fans will be glad.
Meanwhile I have the next week off! Hurray! :D Time to do some serious painting, various deviousness (1st Wedding Anniversary! YEAY! :D) and actually read all Claude's latest updates. X3 Miam.
So, what's new with everyone?
Typical...
Feb. 22nd, 2014 07:12 amSaturday morning: Get up waaay earlier than your normal workday time because your body can't sleep no more. XP
On the plus side, more time for painting!
*Scurries back to drawings and miniatures.*

FFnet, Korra, Movies, Series and Fun!
Dec. 1st, 2013 09:31 amI just realized that they now have the story pictures on people's profiles!
[/shallow]
Have been watching Legend of Korra book 2: OH MY WORD so much amazing! Am thoroughly enjoying re-watching it with Curry too. ♥ Am also looking forward to re-watching Avatar: The Last Airbender/The legend of Aang as a result. And I learn there are graphical novels too... *fangirls*
Quite a few good films in Cinemas at the moment. Thor 2 was a very enjoyable romp with Asgardians and Dark Elves and Magic~, Ender's Game was fantastic in the way it used CG and just the story. Ugh! So good. Am looking forward to seeing the second Hobbit film and chomping at the bit to see one day (probably in DVD 'cause time? What's that?) Saving Mr Banks, Pacific Rim, and (just a little?) Frozen.
TV Series "Agents of Shield" has been very fun so far too. Am amazed at how much it references the latest Thor movie too, now that it's out. Transmedia win.
And of course...
Doctor Who's 50th? The day of the doctor? Geronimoooo-amazing! :D So much fun. I heart John Hurt's Doctor so much! ♥
In real life I got to find out at work what it must feel like to be Santa's little helper elf... The long sleeves make one want to shimmy everywhere as though ice-skating. Slidey shoe covers & dance floor help! >D
Had the first snow of the season a couple of week's back. It lasted about half a day before leaving a nice & sneaky patch of black ice to wake me up the next morning. No harm done - am just amazed at how invisible it was. Mother Nature must have been proud. :)
Right. Time to dash and get Christmas Cards sorted & start wrapping prezzies!
How is everyone, by the way?
