So turns out I could easily do "100 days of derp" as a series, am sure. After my last post, I managed to reproduce a similar derp by unwittingly locking myself in the stairwell of our building while exiting the flat without my keys (I forgot them). My options were to sit it out till Hubby turns phone on or break the lock on the flat door to get my keys.
Door's now needing mending, but thankfully it's got another lock on it we can use since that wasn't locked, and bonus: it won't allow me out without my keys.

Is a yale lock and a fairly thin door - brute force. One of our prior flatmates had done it before (coming home drunk-forgot key) and then fixed it after with no-nails. Is only reason I even considered it - because I knew it was possible.
Also yale locks are surprisingly easy to break. Used to have a yale lock on the door out but some junkies broke it wanting a place out of the rain to smoke so we replaced it with a proper mortis lock (which you're not gonna brute force)

Kaito skills would have been nice and a lot tidier. XD

And don't feel bad about the keys. It's a fact of life that forgetting one's keys is one of life's few constants. (That, and eating waaaay past bedtime). Maybe if you have a post-it stuck to the door with the key reminder, it may help?

(Huggles june) *chuckle* Yeah it is. Thankfully the post it won't be required as the door has now lost the magical ability to lock itself. Am more embarrassed by the timing really: had to call in late to work less than a week after locking myself in there. :p

Awh well. I think I'm too used to owning up to silly mistakes like this, is great that that is all they are, little and entertaining after the fact. ;)
