Sigh, christmas shopping today, it was not. Went to see "Golden Compas" at Cinema I did.

This movie has had some awesome mediatic strategy. Grabbing Trailer, a clever internet quizz/meme (damn, still a spider), and hey, it's based off a prized book (titled "Northern Lights", surprisingly).

But it wasn't as good as I'd been expecting. I'm half regretting having read the book before hand.
And here's why...

- Loved the story intro-walk in bit that explained the world of the Golden Compas. After that? Not that much that was as grabbing for me. The ripped-off-jaw scene was nicely handled (even if I didn't expect them to keep it) and the techno-punk feel and special effects(aka Daemons) were grand. The story was greatly reshuffled (which I can understand) but I'm still iffy on quite a few points of it (cf billy-ratter combo and the anecdote feel of the bears?)

- Good grief, you make a child's parents both have striking blue eyes when the child's are dark brown and I see this within the first ten minutes. D: Me not happy. No one tell you blue is recessive? Or have I been taught wrong?

- Of late, when I go to movies, I have been learning to expect awesome opening/closing sequences. Golden Compas's subdued opening/closing did not deliver. :c|

- Cut Scenes stuck together syndrome. D: Am unsure if I would have followed as well had I not read the book.

- Dammit, movie ends on cheesy "Wizard of Oz" feeling, with Lyra-Dorothy, brave bear, flying tinman and scarecrow-boy, instead of the twist that made the book. *Leaves cinema slightly frustrated*

Oh well, maybe am a bit too severe with it, still felt an urge for cheesecake to make up for it afterwards (and bought the book's sequal, because the book was GREAT, the movie not so much.)
(If my french bank account is in the red, I know why. *sigh*)

*Leaves you with the Northern Lights of old Aberdeen.*

Books are definitely worth it. ♥
I still can't believe the movie left out the final twist from the book. It's like they're leaving it open so they have the choice of doing a sequel or not. And ahaha, started reading the first book in an airport. XD

Good that you weren't disappointed though. *huggles*

(Edit: Forgot I head a book icon. :headesk: )

They're okay.

It should be a sign, though, that my copy of Garth Nix's Sabriel is well-worn by five or more read-throughs, while the three books from Pullman's series are nearly untouched.

I meant a watch alarm. O_o You do wear watches, right? Or are you one of those people who's like, "My wrist is too small! It'll look garish! D:"

XDD As if there was any doubt.

Wrist-watches have alarms now?

Even the non-digital ones? O_o *stares*

*rolls eyes*

Yes, the analog ones have are alarms. You put them next to your ear, and the obnoxious ticking wakes you up eventually.

Psssssh. Go get a digital. I can't even read an analog any more - or at least, for a long time I couldn't. I have one of each now.

Considering I'm starting to get "Da Vinci Code" vibes in better from the sequel, I think I can understand why. XD
(Sabriel?)

But Alas. That is not stopping the fanart plunnies from breeding. BOrg Daemons anyone?
