plisser: "un pli" is a fold, Plisser means to pleat but when one "pleats" their eyes, they are in fact scrunching them up. ^_^
estomper: to fade away, blur. "S'estomper" means it is fading away on it's own.
se débarasser de: to get rid of. "Débarrasser la table" means to clear the table, take the stuff away. "Un débarras" is where one stores unwanted Junk.
avoir raté: in polite compagnie one says "avoir manqué" which means "to have missed."
une effigie: an effigy, an effigy of something is an object made in it's likeness.

NOTE:
This part is a direct continuation of the previous one, which can be found here.
Not as exciting perhaps, but with a tinge of mystery beginning the futur plot and probably more accessible vocabulary (I hope.)
ETA: Also. Hakuba's father's position in the police is a kind of mild guess. I fail at ranks.

Blinking her eyes for a short moment, the brown-haired girl scrunched them up so as to better examine the picture on screen.
"Here is the picture of the place where, as was last heard, the young detective from London was last..."
It was the back of a temple, rather badly taken maintained, if one was to rely on the state of the garden, water well and building in sight.
While her friend concentrated on the presented visual, Mouri Ran was seriously listening to the reporter's voice.
"Rumor has it that young Saguru Hakuba went there to investigate Kid the phantom Thief, but that doesn't explain his disappearance.
After 48 hours without any news from his son, despite their planned meeting, superintendant general Hakuba has started searches in..."
"Disappeared...?!" Whispered Ran, her eyes wide, and her thoughts couldn't help but to draw a parallel with Shinichi's disappearance that day at Tropical Land.
Sure, she had learnt a week later that he was well and had just been caught up in a difficult case that forced him to travel without giving any news, but...
"Hakuba..."
Sonoko, on the other hand, was now by the TV post, tapping at a white spot next to the well.
"I could have sworn..." The spot had just vanished before her eyes.
Getting rid of the strange feeling this, after all insignificant, detail had stirred in her, the high school student raised her head with a demonic smile.
"CLICK."
"Oh no, Sonoko!"
"Ahaha!" She had just switched back to the channel with her series on.
The image of the heroine with her eyes now wide open and empty presented itself to them.
Realising that the silver-haired vampire from earlier had most likely just drained her of her blood, Ran screamed in terror.
"What did I tell you, Sonoko?! Kyah!"
"Huh?! No way, but how...?"
And as if to mock her, the episode ended on that image, promising the great return of the hero and follow-up to the story the following week.
"Oh nooo!" There, she had missed the most juicy bit, and was now wondering what it was that had taken place. Never mind, she'd look for a summary on the internet by next week.
The incident with the white spot completely forgotten, Sonoko decided to distract herself from her deception by teasing her companion with a Dracula plush toy.

And in DC manga Megure reports to Miyamoto, so... ^^;;
I compromised by making him general inspector or something like that. If I understood how ranks worked I'd probably change that to the most appropriate thingamy though.
And it's so confusing! Dc:
In french you say "Inspecteur" instead of "Detective" and "Commissaire" instead of "Inspector"!
It doesn't help me understand the logic, not at all. ;-;

Date: 2006-07-16 09:45 pm (UTC)It does on the 'Minor Characters' page.
'警視総監 白馬' or something along the lines of 'Superintendent General Hakuba'
It's also stated in file 563, page 4 (volume 54, file 10) when Heiji and Saguru have a minor pissing contest over Fathers. (the rough translation I have says that Saguru's Dad is the 'Cheif of Police')
Can't remember but I think it's also stated in Saguru's profile for the big Movie 10 poster...

Next time I'd better double check sources instead of trusting my memory of themSo that means he really is Prefect Matsumoto's superior? And Prefect Hattori's?
(Because for some reason I had thought there wasn't much above Matsumoto >_>;;)
Any rates, gonna fix it in this ficbit right now then start looking for a french equivalent of that rank... ^^;
Thank you very much!

Date: 2006-07-18 04:39 am (UTC)It was explained to me that Megure's superior would report to Saguru's Dad, so that's the heirarchy I go with.
I still have yet to completely map and figure out the whole flow of power for the police. Espeically since we just figured out that Nakamori-keibu is a different division (Dept 2) than Megure, Sato and Takagi (Dept 1). Nakamori reports to Chaki Shintaro instead of Matsumoto Kiyonaga, although I've yet to check to see if Chaki and Matsumoto are of equal rank.
(the police ranks don't seem to translate well into English, in my humble experiance. I think 'Dept 1' may also be the equvaliant to 'Major Crime' while 'Dept 2' may be 'Theft'. I don't know.)
Um... Heiji's Dad probably wouldn't report to Saguru's Dad... different area. Osaka Director-General, while Saguru's Dad is Metropoltian, ie Tokyo.
*sighs* Would love to get this mapped out sometime, would make people's ranks SO much clearer... @_@
((GLOMPS Dagron!)) Hope that helps-?

Date: 2006-07-18 04:48 am (UTC)Out of curiosity, I just ran '警視総監 白馬' through Nifty's Translators, and it came up with 'Metropolitan Police Chief Hakuba'.
Jeffery's says that '総監' is 'inspector general; commissioner'
According to Wiki, a 'Chief of Police' can also be called a Commissioner.
Which I think means that Saguru's Dad is as high up as you can go... @_@;;
Commisssioner Hakuba, anyone?

Date: 2006-07-19 10:42 am (UTC)*Decides to be clever and search wiki in french for corresponding titles~*
And yeah, would be logical that Nakamori and Megure's sections investigate different types of crime. He does pull out as soon as there's a murder in that other case, doesn't he?
And I obviously have some catching up to do. I don't recognize some of the names you mentionned. (Chaki) ^^;no subject

Et puis bah, de rien. ^^

er, FS has read the English version first, again.
Thanks for the second drabble. :) FS has just dug out her French grammar book and begun to read it.
By the way the picture is lovely, Dagron. The fainting Mitsuhiko looks so cute. (*hugs Mitsuhiko) What about posting it on AiCoholics?

Date: 2006-07-19 08:37 am (UTC)It's not terrible. And it's way better than my French. :D
:D
