Yes... I know...
It's a bit late to do a "Happy New Year" topic...
Happy New Year 2005 anyway :cp
Anyways... Now that the old year's gone and the new one's barged in, it's usually a time where one looks back at what they've achieved in the past few months, and pause to think of what might happen in the months to come. I guess today is as good a day as any other, in fact, it might be even better:
%Today is when my 1st semester Assessment period starts.
Why does that make it a good day to draw the 04/05 line? Well, basicly, what you do at an assessment is -look at what you've done and learnt in the last few months... and -think about what that will lead you to doing in the months to come. Pretty similar no?

Well then, let's see... What have I done in the year of the lord: 2004 ?

-from January till May, I was finishing a very fruitful (I believe) foundation course. Came out of it knowing way much better how to look at things and draw them, perfected my perspective knowledge of perspective (or something of the sort) and, well, prepared to pass some interviews to go to an art school...
-In the end I tried one french school: failed. But anyways, I wasn't expecting much on that account. My lack of "personal" work probably didn't help either.
-Having passed an english fluency test (mere formality), I applied to three art colleges in britain(Scotland). As opposed to the french school (that followed an elimination process of 'we look at art work alone, get rid of some, make the rest pass some practical and history/critic of art exams, get rid of some, and sift the gems out by interview') these applications went through the more straightforward "interview"(only) process... After looking through motivation letters and cvs, of course.
-First interview was at Glasgow school of art. It was one of two schools I had seen the open day of on a previous trip, and the only one out of the two I was applying for. (The other school was Edimbrough, them being rivals, it was wiser not to list it amongst my choices.) Went up for the interview on the day with my mom. Flight was okay, but tiring. Mom was more stressed out more than I was, which was kind of, erm... Weird. She made me put on a 'suit' which a)was too tight and b)made me feel rather silly(and cold, t'was windy), especially after I saw that previous interviewees wore nice and comfy jeans or skirts. Interview went, well humm okay. They were nice, it was straightforward. My mom wanted to know how it went. I said 'I don't know' and waited for the results. Having felt a bit 'iffy' afterwards, I wasn't surprised to see they redirected me to my second choice.
-Second Interview was at Aberdeen. Went up with my cousin, after a good night's repose and wearing a comfy skirt. No stressful mom to keep at bay ^^p Was rather impressed with the interview method, less based on Chit Chat alone, and more around talking about the work and why you'd chosen to put up so and so on the wall. Got in. Didn't have to go for a third interview at Dundee. I guess putting in some of my more creative and personal work from previous years Did help.
-Continuing on the scholastic/work life line... Got out of my flat in Paris (which involved alot of going up and down 6 flights of stairs carrying bags and bags of stuff... And a MAJOR cleaning session.) Had a splendid, if not very productive "summer job"-wise, relaxing Summer vacation... Then got down to the real stuff: getting ready to study abroad from home (-which is where ever the family is).
It's probably been talked about already in previous posts. On the whole, I believe it went pretty well, even if I did have some trouble sorting out a bank acocunt. Very interesting first semester bouncing from one project to the next every week ^-^

-social life wise? Hummm... Let me suss out leisure wise first! Someone (who should be blamed for it) managed to get me in really deep into the "Fanfictiondom" and, accessorily "fanartdom" of Detective Conan... Some time around May. I don't know how they did it... Not even sure if there was a motive... But they did it well and true! Spent all summer doodling lots and lots and waaaaay too much Fanart and not enough original stuff to call my own. Heck, even the few original drawings I did were recycled into fanarts! I also completed a nearly-30 chapters long French fanfic (which I'm pretty proud of: the idea slapped me on the head and, surprisingly, I pulled it off! O.o) ... I then started to be assaulted by various ideas for fanfics, in english and french (the first french fic's sequel is in the works and running), and, even though my access to internet (aka typing and publishing fics facilities) was rendered sporadic, if not nil, I still continued writing and... Doodling Conans and Kudos and Kids... All that was used in my end of year update of my dagashi website.
This %points dramatically at above text% is no where near comparable to my meek, weak and feeble first dablings in Fanficdom and fanartdom, that had worn off by the time school got back in a couple of years before. Positive point: It also introduced me to livejournal and blog concepts, although whether that's a good thing is still to be decided. 9.9
-Summer vacation: went for a trip to Germany. Very interesting, even though a three day trip to Berlin's museums IS murder for the feet. He, even go to go to the zoo! That hadn't happened for a loooong time. And the weather was good too ^^
-Right humm... Social life wise I was saying? Made a discovery: I am naturally UNtalented in the arts of socializing... Especially if it involves drinking and innuendos. Not that it's really a bother to me. I like tranquility and I don't mind taking my time to make -good- friends... Just wished I had a better memory for names though 9.9

As for what's coming up in 2005, I'm sure I do not know...
-I think I need to start thinking about driving lessons, they're bound to come in handy some time...
-I am going to have to choose which subject(s) I want to do in the coming semester, and, if lucky, year 05-06.
-Need to keep an eye out for accomodation opportunities that could last for the next three study years.
-Get myself a summer job. There needs to be a first time. I've just been too shy about it.
-Think of inventive b-day gifts for family, especially since I'm not home for two of them.
-Make sure the study trip to Paris(where I was studying beginning 04) is profitable for me. I'll probably try and visit parts of museums I had avoided or not bothered with before.
-Avoid over-enjoying my newly refound internet access via laptop... It's meant to be for working purposes!
-Oh, and to get some common sense into my brain, that'll always be a good idea :c)

Anyways, the christmas vacation was really fun, and quite an energizing, at least I think, repose after an interesting, yet long four months non stop work. Had so much fun taunting/teasing/chatting with lorna when I could that I quite frankly forgot to sleep as much as I should have. :c) And new year with the parents, although quiet, was very agreeable. Meat fondue was yummy :cd

Now I've got to set my mind on worrying about assessment results ^^;;;; C U
